Job DescripionA Consultancy Project Manager (CPM) plays a key role within Rubicon Archaeology Group’s Consultancy Department, bridging the gap between project delivery and strategic oversight. They are responsible for managing consultancy projects across Ireland (and in the UK if the need arises), ensuring that all work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest professional and health and safety standards.
Working closely with the Head of Group Consultancy and the Commercial Project Manager and the wider consultancy team, the CPM oversees day-to-day operations, supports consultancy staff, and maintains communication between teams and clients within their assigned projects. They demonstrate strong leadership, commercial awareness, and technical expertise, while fostering collaboration and professional development within the department.
Responsibilities include project planning, resource allocations and control, budget management, quality control, report contribution and review, and client liaison. The CPM ensures that consultancy outputs meet the standards of Rubicon Archaeology Group’s Integrated Management System (IMS) and contributes to the continual improvement of departmental processes.
Summary of essential job functions▪Maintain a detailed up-to-date knowledge of Irish legislation and best practice in relation to archaeological consultancy
▪Manage and support consultancy staff on assigned projects, ensuring clear communication of objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
▪Develop and monitor project performance, time budgets, and quality standards on assigned projects
▪Ensure commercial information is up to date and passed to relevant staff for invoicing and project spending.
▪Ensure adherence to company Health & Safety policies, including risk assessments and RAMS
▪Maintain compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) and propose improvements where necessary.
▪Undertake or oversee site visits, walkovers, and baseline data collection where relevant.
▪Undertake consultancy reports of all types and/or assign and coordinate others to undertake reporting
▪Maintain quality control in report writing and data outputs, ensuring consistency, accuracy and compliance.
▪Coordinate with clients and project partners to provide professional consultancy advice.
▪Support GIS and digital data integration within consultancy workflows.
▪Ensure delivery of consultancy work to required standards and deadlines.
▪Support the Head of Group Consultancy in developing and implementing departmental strategies and workflows.
▪Line manage more junior consultancy staff to include - conducting regular reviews/appraisals of consultancy staff and contributing to their training and development.
▪Liaise with Operations Directors (UK & Ireland) on departmental performance, project status, and future opportunities.
▪Promote the Consultancy Department’s services to potential clients and participate in outreach as required.
▪Identify potential consultancy opportunities and contribute to tender and proposal preparation
▪Ensure continuous improvement and innovation in consultancy processes and outputs.
▪Promote high standards of archaeological and heritage consultancy across the department.
▪Assist in maintaining a positive, collaborative working culture and effective communication across teams.
Minimum Requirements▪Third level education in Archaeology or a related discipline or adequate relevant experience
▪Demonstrable understanding of the planning process in relation to archaeology in Ireland (or the UK)
▪Demonstrable report writing experience including on complex consultancy project
Abilities Required▪Ability to travel to occasional client meetings/ trade shows etc
▪Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
▪Ability to work independently and on own initiative
▪Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
▪Good organisational skills
▪Multi-tasking and time management abilities
▪Ability to mediate and facilitate discussions.

Salary: €50,000/ £43,000 (with significant bonus opportunities if you are licence eligible in Ireland)
