Colm Moloney has 37 years of commercial archaeological experience with 35 years at project management level or above. He has overseen the successful management of large, complex projects in the UK, Ireland and Germany, notably on energy and transport projects. Colm is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and Member of the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland. Colm acts as project manager and/or project director (with financial and contractual oversight) on large, complex projects and has acted as Senior Archaeologist on multi-million-euro infrastructural developments in the UK, Ireland and Germany which he has delivered from tender through to final publication.

Patricia has over 20 years experience in the archaeological services sector and has been with Rubicon Archaeology since 2003. She is currently responsible for archaeological operations within the company, overseeing all aspects of Rubicon’s archaeological services from fieldwork through to post excavation, with a focus on quality assurance. She acts as project manager and/or project director (with financial and contractual oversight) on the largest and most complex projects. Having directed excavations on a large number of sites across Ireland, Patricia has acted as Senior Archaeologist on a number of multi-million-euro infrastructural developments in Ireland and the UK, working closely with clients such as Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Roads Service Northern Ireland and Fusion/ HS2. In addition to her managerial experience Patricia has reported on a wide range of important sites and has published and lectured widely on the results of these excavations.

Claire has 28 years of administrative experience and has worked in the archaeological/heritage sector since 2009. She has worked at various levels within the group structure and is a key player in major infrastructure projects throughout the UK, Ireland and Germany. Claire works closely with the project directors/managers to maintain a collaborative working environment which ensures client, internal and other stakeholders’ requirements are effectively managed. She directs both commercial and operational aspects on major contracts and is effective in conflict resolution. She is a member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
Carmelita Troy

Carmelita Troy has been with Rubicon Archaeology since 2006. During this time, she has been their in-house osteoarchaeologist, and in 2017 also assigned responsibility for overseeing all aspects of Rubicon’s post-excavation services. In 2020, Carmelita was appointed to Quality & Compliance Manager position for Rubicon Archaeology Group. In this role she has successfully implemented an ISO certified Integrated Management System (IMS) for Quality (ISO 9001:2015), Environmental (ISO 14001:2015), and Health & Safety (ISO 45001:2018) Management for Rubicon. Carmelita’s main duties include maintaining ISO certification, implementing an audit program, training staff in the IMS, assisting the development of company processes and procedures, quality control on documents, facilitating tender quality submissions, and supporting the Human Resources and Procurement Management functions.

Bruce has been with Rubicon Archaeology since January 2018 and is responsible for managing commercial projects. He has been a professional field archaeologist in Ireland since graduating from Leicester University in 1998 and became eligible to hold an excavation license in 2004. Since then he has managed archaeological sites and projects, and has acted as Senior Archaeologist for several large-scale infrastructural projects since 2006. Bruce has a keen interest in technology, is a qualified drone pilot, and is currently studying for a PhD in Environmental Archaeology through the University of the Highlands and the Islands (UHI).

Dwanna brings a detail-oriented, methodical approach to archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation processes.

Florian studied archaeology at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich and Carl-Albrecht-University in Kiel. He is an experienced archaeologist with over a decade of expertise in leading and managing excavations in Bavaria. With a background in prehistoric, medieval and classical archaeology with a focus on the medieval periods, he has been involved since 2011 in a wide range of commercial projects of various sizes, from Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements to medieval cemeteries and early modern urban landscapes. He participated in several research projects of the Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich in Germany, Italy and Romania. Florian is a key element in between project directors/managers, office management and fieldwork.

Gemma has almost 20 years’ experience in the archaeological and heritage sector, working across the UK, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Turkey, and Denmark. She currently manages a range of projects including infrastructure, housing, energy, and environmental schemes, overseeing all aspects of archaeological management from heritage consents and fieldwork design to site management, monitoring, reporting, and publication. Prior to more than a decade in project management, Gemma worked as a field archaeologist and archaeological supervisor in the UK commercial sector, primarily in London and the South East, where she developed strong working relationships with local archaeological monitors and Historic England leads for the East Anglian counties.

In her current role Hannah oversees the day-to-day workflow and output of the Geomatics team, directing the production and layout of archaeological graphics and artwork. She collaborates across departments to ensure project and client specific actions are met. An illustrator with 15 years of experience, Hannah has worked on a wide variety of projects across Britain and Ireland. She has been responsible for the delivery of high-profile graphics and design projects for both the private and public sectors, overseeing a team of archaeological illustrators on multi-million euro road schemes, providing Editorial Review, Quality Control and Stylistic Compliance over thousands of archaeological illustrations. These include substantial infrastructural schemes, heritage surveys, urban archaeology, renewable energy developments and community outreach programmes.

Keziah completed their PhD in 2023, titled “The Descent: Geographical Information System Mapping as a Method of Quantification in Osteological and Taphonomic Analysis of Early Neolithic Human Remains from Cave Burials in North-Western England,” developing specialist skills in human osteology, cave archaeology, and the application of QGIS. Keziah currently applies their combination of archaeological expertise and business experience at Rubicon Archaeology Limited, supporting multiple departments and ensuring client satisfaction.

Louis has overseen a broad portfolio of research-led and contract-based archaeological projects and has extensive fieldwork experience across archaeologically complex sites spanning periods from the Neolithic through to the Second World War. His expertise includes heritage management activities such as large-scale landscape survey, high-status building recording, and watching briefs within UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Louis has worked across the UK, from the Scottish Borders through England and Wales, on projects ranging from individual residential developments to major infrastructure schemes, managing projects from inception to completion including client liaison, engagement with Local Planning Authorities, fieldwork direction, and the production of final reports and presentation-quality graphics.

Maria is a qualified archaeologist with internationally recognized academic credentials and a postgraduate specialization in archaeology. She has more than twenty years of experience in archaeological excavation and research across Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Poland, including nearly six years of archaeological fieldwork in Bavaria. In addition, she has three years of experience in the planning and design of cable routes, solar parks, substations and battery storage systems, with expertise in technical drafting, surveying, and regulatory compliance for the protection of archaeological heritage and natural areas throughout Germany. She also has European-level experience in formal and non-formal education, including museum education.

Martin Straßburger has been active in archaeology since 1991. After completing his community service in lignite archaeology at the Rhineland Office for Monument Preservation, he studied prehistory and early history, medieval archaeology, Christian archaeology and Byzantine art history, and geology in Bonn, Cologne, Freiburg im Breisgau, and Munich. He received his doctorate from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2014. His excavation experience extends to monasteries, churches, rural settlements from various periods, and castles. He eventually specialised in mining archaeology. In addition to providing specialist archaeological support, he has also participated in research projects at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. In collaboration with the Ecomuseo Argentario in Civezzano, he conducted mining archaeological surveys on the Monte Calisio plateau near Trento and participated in research into pre-colonial mining in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. From 2012 to 2015, he worked at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in Munich as a research assistant in the field of old mining in Bavaria. From 2015 onwards, he ran a consultancy for mining archaeology, which, in addition to mining, smelting, and metal working, also dealt with souterrains and rock cellars throughout Bavaria. As part of his activities, he advised on mining archaeological issues related to the route of the Schwandorf-Forchheim Loopline in 2016/2017. From September 2019, he took over the redesign and reconceptualization of the permanent archaeological exhibition of the Wittelsbach Museum as project manager for the town of Aichach an der Paar. From 2021 to 2024, he headed the Annaberg-Buchholz Municipal Museums, which also include two objects in the UNESCO World Heritage Montanregion Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří. Subsequently, he worked on, among other things, smithing slags from the Manching oppidum and worked as a freelancer on a joint project between the Coin Cabinet of the Dresden State Art Collections and the Adam-Ries-Association.

Rachel Morgan James

Rachel has worked in the commercial heritage sector since 2002, following earlier experience as a planning advisor. She has extensive expertise managing heritage projects within the planning frameworks of Scotland, Wales, England, and Ireland, and has authored and managed numerous cultural heritage environmental impact assessment chapters, desk-based assessments, heritage impact statements, and historic building recordings. A skilled historic buildings specialist, Rachel has also undertaken historic area assessments and authored conservation management plans for listed buildings, successfully guiding client projects through to completion.

As Project Manager, Simon has managed a wide range of archaeological projects, from watching briefs to complex schemes involving geophysical survey, building recording, trial trenching, and full excavation. He has extensive fieldwork experience spanning prehistoric to medieval periods, with a particular focus on post-medieval buildings archaeology, including desk-based assessments, statements of significance, and building recording to English Heritage Levels 1–4. Siobhán is an experienced Human Osteologist and project leader with a strong background in the analysis of archaeological human remains. She holds a First-Class BSc in Forensic Anthropology and an MSc in Bioarchaeology from Liverpool John Moores University and has worked in both field and post-excavation contexts on major UK projects including HS2. Currently serving as Post-Excavation Manager, Siobhán oversees the movement, logging, processing, reporting, and archiving of archaeological materials and archives between excavation sites and specialist teams nationwide. She also has experience in community outreach, delivering workshops and public talks on anthropology and human osteology.

Adam McCann is a UK and Irish Neolithic archaeologist with over 10 years of academic and archaeological experience with a specialist interest in patterns of movement and contact between communities, the formation and expression of identity and maritime activity. Adam joined Rubicon Archaeology Limited in 2025 after completing a PhD in Neolithic Archaeology entitled Analysing Ongoing Contact and Expression of Identity in the Established Neolithic of the Fourth Millennium BC between Communities of the Atlantic Façade through the Material Culture of Western Scotland and Cumbria. This was completed on the back of a master’s by Research named Tracing the Ebb and Flow of Contact between Shetland and the Wider World in the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age (4000–1500 BC). Adam works in the consultancy department as a researcher and copy editor preparing method statements, submitting licence applications, and copy-editing consultancy reports before submission to clients.

Ciarrai O'Sullivan

In 2018, Ciarraí graduated from her Mphil from UCC, which looked at the archaeological signature of Early Medieval Túatha. In 2017, she began as a field archaeologist on the N22 Baile Bhuire to Macroom Bypass Scheme in Cork, Ireland and went on to work on range of sites around the country as a site assistant. Ciarraí joined Rubicon Archaeology in 2022 as a site assistant for the M28 Ringaskiddy Motorway Project. Her current role for Rubicon Archaeology is as Archaeologist Consultant.

Daniel Keane

Dan has over 10 years experience working with archaeology companies across the UK and Ireland. He has gained valuable experience working on many different types of projects, ranging from managing large watching briefs in city centres to handling survey and data processing for large stretches of pipeline jobs. He has also conducted building surveys and topographical surveys on English Heritage sites across the UK. During his previous role as surveyor, Dan was responsible for setting out and data collection from pre-excavation through to post-excavation stages on a number of sites across the country and two road projects concurrently. This included implementing a survey and filing procedure. He has produced illustrations for reports across a number of schemes and has contributed to standardising illustration templates with the adept use of CAD and QGIS. In his current role as Geomatics and Survey Co-ordinator, Dan is responsible for liaising between site staff, project managers and clients to ensure the highest professional standards are adhered to for our survey data management in ongoing projects. He has played a key role in updating and implementing quality control policies and procedures for the company.

Dawn has been a professional field archaeologist since graduating from UCC in 1999. After working on numerous archaeological projects in Ireland and abroad for a few years, Dawn developed a keen interest in funerary archaeology and archaeothanatology and so returned to university and completed a MSc in Osteoarchaeology in University of Edinburgh in 2006. This led to her involvement in projects in the Orkney Islands and to a PhD in Archaeology which she completed in 2015. Dawn joined Rubicon Archaeology in 2015 as field osteoarchaeologist and site supervisor at the Grangegorman Cholera Cemetery, part of the LUAS Cross City works. Since joining the company, Dawn has been involved in a range of both archaeological and osteoarchaeological projects in both Ireland and the UK.

Dermot is a highly experienced Site Director and has been eligible to hold an archaeological excavation licence for over 20 years. He has extensive experience directing monitoring, testing, and excavation projects and is a recognised specialist in ground stone and other stone artefacts. Dermot has worked on numerous major infrastructure projects throughout Ireland as both an archaeological director and lithic specialist, developing pre- and post-excavation lithic sampling strategies and schedules. He has authored over 200 specialist reports and published articles covering periods from the Palaeolithic to the 20th century.

Isaac Garcia
Logistics Coordinator
About
Isaac Garcia is Rubicon’s site set up and maintenance specialist for large scale archaeological projects. Since joining the company in 2022, his experience covers logistics, health and safety, facilitation of major site works and landowner liaison. The role of the Logistics Co-ordinator is to efficiently procure, distribute and maintain tools and sundries, erect, and dismantle fencing and set up and shut down sites as required. Isaac is also expected to document all his work on site, including the keeping of detailed photographic and written records. He is responsible for carrying out all logistics works required by Rubicon Archaeology, as and when required. He has taken on the role of the Fleet Supervisor regarding the upkeep and maintenance of the company fleet. Isaac is also responsible for compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS). Isaac has experience in the role of Site Assistant. This involves the excavation and recording of archaeological features on-site, as well as undertaking certain post-excavation duties including data entry, environmental sample processing and finds processing.

Ivan Pawle is a seasoned field archaeologist with over 22 years’ experience in the archaeological services sector. They joined Rubicon Archaeology Limited in 2013 as a site supervisor and have since been involved in a wide range of projects across Ireland. Since June 2024, they have worked as a Site Assistant on the Foynes to Limerick Project with Archaeological Management Solutions Ltd. Sonia’s experience includes multilayered excavation from Roman to Byzantine/early medieval contexts, archaeological surveillance, CAD mapping, GIS applications (QGIS), photogrammetry, documentation, cataloguing, and artefact processing. Stephen began work with Rubicon Archaeology in 2006 and worked as a site assistant and surveyor on the N7 and N9/N10 road schemes, gaining experience on a wide variety of site types from Mesolithic to post-medieval. He also has experience in post-excavation on work including archiving, environmental processing, report and publication writing. Stephen has also gained experience in project administration and completed a number of courses in Health, Safety and Welfare enabling him to fulfil the role of Health and Safety officer. He has been involved in a number of significant excavations including a pre-Romanesque church at Lorrha, Co. Tipperary, an urban Viking site in Waterford city and the excavation of a medieval tower house and moat at Caherduggan Castle in North Cork. He has been working as a Site Supervisor in Ireland since 2010 and was Assistant Director at an excavation of a multi-period site in Southwest Wales (2014) which included Bronze Age, medieval, Roman and post-medieval remains. Stephen has also been a contributing author in two TII Monographs; In the Vale of Tralee, The archaeology of the N22 Tralee Bypass and ‘Title forthcoming’ The archaeology of Buttevant town.
Tammy Fleming

Tammy began her career doing bookkeeping in a restaurant, where she managed and developed an interest in accounting. She started studying for her Bachelor of Accounting Sciences degree at the same time as starting a new position as a cashbook clerk for a large FMCG chain in South Africa. She quickly grew her skills while here and was promoted to Cashbook Supervisor within a few months. At the end of her first year, her manager had moved to Frey’s Food Brands as Financial Director delegate and asked Tammy to move to this company in a role that he had created for her as Management Accountant. Tammy progressed quickly at Frey’s Food Brands, being asked to head up a large ERP system implementation across the company and after that being promoted to Financial Manager, she completed her Bachelors Degree and Honours Degree through distance learning while working full time and growing in these companies. Tammy has since worked at Falcon Agricultural Equipment heading up the Finance, Administration and Human Resources departments, before her family moved to Ireland in the beginning of 2019. She joined Avon court Packaging once in Ireland in the role of Financial Accountant and Business Process Manager. Here she worked with both Irish and UK companies financial accounting and administration requirements, as well as conceptualising and implementing the company’s Brexit plan to ensure a smooth transition. This ensured the despatch of multiple truckloads of APET packaging to Great Britain weekly with no negative impact on the company’s customers. At the end of August 2023 she joined Rubicon Archaeology where she manages the Accounting and Payroll functions of the company.

Anna began her professional career in archaeology in 2023 while undertaking her MSc at Leicester University on a part-time basis. During this time, she worked both independently and as part of a team across a number of archaeological sites, gaining experience in a range of fieldwork and post-excavation activities. Alongside her studies, Anna held multiple volunteer roles with Amgueddfa Cymru, including events volunteer, collections archivist, and volunteer ambassador, developing skills in collections management, public engagement, and heritage interpretation. Since joining Rubicon Archaeology in 2025, Anna has been employed as a key member of the Specialist Services’ Artefacts Team, working on finds and artefacts from multiple sites and contributing to ongoing post-excavation and reporting programmes.

Barry has over 20 years’ experience working on a wide range of archaeological projects across Britain and Ireland. He began his career after graduating from Bournemouth University in 2003, joining Rubicon Archaeology in 2004 on the N25 Waterford Bypass in Ireland. Barry has since worked as a Site Supervisor and Assistant Site Director on major infrastructure schemes including the M6 Galway to Ballinasloe motorway, the N7 Nenagh to Limerick Dual Carriageway, and the M9 Carlow Bypass. Based in Rubicon’s Cardiff office since 2017, he has contributed to numerous projects through the production of specialist metallurgical reports and publications.

Dana is a field archaeologist and academic tutor with experience across commercial, academic, and international projects. As an Assistant Supervisor at Rubicon Archaeology, Dana supports excavation and recording on site and is responsible for training trainee and newly appointed archaeologists, including in the excavation of human remains. Dana has also worked as a Project Assistant at Rubicon Archaeology and held Tutor and Senior Tutor roles at Durham University, delivering small-group teaching and supporting staff training. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from Heriot-Watt University and specialises in full-stack development, with particular experience in Next.js, TypeScript, React Native, and Postgres-based systems. At Rubicon, Reuben has taken a leading role in the development and maintenance of public-facing websites, internal content management tools, and digital workflows that improve how information is managed and published across the business. His work includes secure admin dashboards, structured content systems, and performance-focused web development, helping non-technical teams manage updates more efficiently and reliably. He has also contributed to the design and development of RubiContext, a mobile field recording application and supporting dashboard created to improve onsite archaeological data capture and reduce manual processing. This work has involved data modelling, user permissions, and close collaboration with operational staff to ensure systems are practical, robust, and aligned with field requirements. Rhiannon is an experienced Heritage Consultant with over 10 years’ experience working on a wide range of projects across Britain and Ireland, including major infrastructure schemes such as the A9, HS2, and the A4226. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester, with a thesis focused on the Early Bronze Age in Wales and has a strong background in producing high-quality grey literature and published material. Rhiannon has undertaken detailed post-excavation analysis and authored archaeological reports including watching briefs, evaluations, and excavations, as well as contributing to desk-based assessments, archaeological impact assessments, and environmental impact assessments. She also sits on the Research Framework for the Archaeology of Wales (Neolithic–Early Bronze Age) board and Rubicon’s in-house Sustainability Group.

Zachary is a Junior Heritage Consultant with expertise in landscape analysis and holds a PhD from the University of Aberdeen, where his research focused on the complex hillforts of early medieval Scotland. He is proficient in GIS, LiDAR, and other landscape analysis tools, with additional experience in GPR, gradiometry, resistivity survey, and photogrammetric recording. Previously, Tom served as a British Sea Fisheries Officer with the Marine Directorate, leading compliance operations, inter-agency collaboration, and enforcement across UK waters. Earlier in his career, he managed 24-hour international security operations in the Gulf of Aden and spent over 20 years in the Irish Naval Service, with leadership roles on UN and NATO missions in Kosovo, Liberia, and Lebanon.
