Job DescripionThis role will play a key part in strengthening the skills and capabilities of our archaeologists, heritage specialists, and support teams, ensuring excellence across a wide range of archaeological and heritage projects. The Training Officer will assess organisational and individual training needs, design and deliver engaging learning programmes, and ensure best practice in training procurement and delivery. Working closely with Project Managers, senior archaeological staff, and the HR team, you will foster a culture of continuous professional development, learning, and safety throughout the organisation. You will oversee training administration, maintain accurate and compliant training records, liaise with external training providers, and report regularly to Department Heads and Directors. As part of a multidisciplinary group, you will ensure training requirements are met across all jurisdictions in which we operate. Senior Training Officers may also contribute to project planning, recruitment support, and associated organisational documentation.
Summary of essential job functions▪Conduct training needs analysis across fieldwork, post-excavation, consultancy, and support teams to identify skills gaps and development opportunities.
▪Design, develop, and implement training programmes that support professional standards, project delivery, and employee growth.
▪Facilitate training sessions using diverse methods including in-person workshops, on-site field training, e-learning, and mentoring programmes.
▪Collaborate with managers and team leads to ensure training aligns with project requirements, professional standards (e.g., CIfA, IAI), and company objectives.
▪Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and performance outcomes, adapting programmes where necessary.
▪Keep up to date with industry standards, accreditation frameworks, and professional development best practices relevant to archaeology and heritage.
▪Maintain accurate training records and provide regular reports to management on participation, outcomes, and future training needs.
Minimum Requirements▪Knowledge of British and Irish archaeological practices
▪Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
▪Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
▪Ability to build strong relationships across diverse teams
▪Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives across multiple regions
▪A collaborative and adaptable approach, able to respond to the changing demands of archaeological project work
▪Passion for developing people and supporting career pathways
