We are pleased to announce that Rachel Morgan-James has been appointed Group Head of Consultancy at Rubicon Archaeology. This new role recognises Rachel’s extensive expertise, strong leadership, and continued commitment to excellence in the heritage sector.
With over two decades of experience in cultural heritage consultancy, Rachel has built a distinguished career managing complex projects across Scotland, Wales, and England. Her remit now expands to include Ireland, reflecting the continued growth of her role within the Rubicon Archaeology Group.
Rachel has authored and managed a wide range of deliverables, including cultural heritage environmental impact assessment chapters, desk-based assessments, heritage impact statements, and historic building recordings. She is also a skilled historic building specialist, experienced in both advanced survey methods such as GPS, total station, and photogrammetry, as well as traditional techniques. Her work includes historic area assessments and conservation management plans for listed buildings.

Rachel is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (ACIfA) and a Supporter of the Institute for Historic Building Conservation.
In her previous role as Head of Consultancy Services, Rachel led a number of high-profile projects. These include overseeing the cultural heritage inputs for the proposed Charleston Wind Farm in Caithness, managing heritage services at the Llanfendigaid Estate in Eryri National Park, and guiding assessments for the Braidfield BESS Cable Route in Clydebank, which involved working with World Heritage Site considerations.
Rachel’s promotion is a testament to her outstanding contributions and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting professional development and recognising leadership within the company.
